This Commotion over a Season-Opening Win!
Well, the ringing endorsements we heard throughout the
off-season turned into a very short leash for Patrick Ramsey, or as Michael
Wilbon said Monday in the Washington Post . . . a "Choke
Collar." Our starting quarterback was benched for elder statesman
Mark Brunell at the start of the third quarter in the Redskins' season opener
win over the woeful Chicago Bears at FedEx Field. Ramsey was knocked out
in the first half, but medically cleared to return to action after halftime;
however, Coach Gibbs stayed with Brunell and was rewarded with 3 field goal
drives in the second half and the win. Clinton Portis and the rushing
game in general had a great game, as did Gregg Williams' defense. With a
few very important exceptions, the team looks great ~ ~ and IF we can get
production from the QB position, we should be optimistic!
This week is the annual pilgrimage to the antiquated confines of Texas Stadium
for an early season battle for first place in the division. The Cowboys
are coming off of a road win at San Diego, where they were able to hold LT
somewhat in check and also had some success with their passing game. They
should find our defense a little more stingy than the Chargers as our secondary
is tougher and we blitz a whole lot more. We HAVE to get production from
the QB position if we are to have an enjoyable Monday Night! It will be
an emotional crowd as the "Triplets" will be inducted into the Cowboy
"Ring of Honor" ~~ boy, that was hard to type without gagging!
But the crowd will be excitable as "simple people" tend to be,
so our Redskins will need all the support we can give them. The pundits
are all predicting a long night for us . . . but I think we all remember that
they said the same thing in 1995 when Heath Shuler led the Skins into Dallas .
. . and we won that one! HAIL!!!!

BURGUNDY & GOLD FANTASY LEAGUE UPDATE
The Burgundy & Gold Fantasy League kicked off
its second season with only one change in team ownership: "KDI",
owned by Chad Costa/Scott Howerton, was replaced by Josh (Danny Zegan's
stepson) and his Aquabats. The draft was held on September 2nd, and play
started this past weekend.
Last year's champs, Unsung Heroes (John Domin), lost its opening game to
Jerry's 421 (Mary Priddy), and lost their #1 receiver when Javon Walker went
down for the year with an ACL.
Game Over (Danny Zegan) rudely welcomed the aforementioned Aquabats (Josh) with
a loss.
The fighting Hellfish (Matt Goldie) started off right with a sound beating of
The Redskins (Linda Domin) as Donavan McNabb did not pull through on Monday
night.
Primetime (Rodney Twyman) scratched out a low scoring victory over 70-Chip
(Kenn Jackson) as his stud, Peyton Manning, was going against the Ravens
defense, and last year's leading rusher Tiki Barber is sharing carries with
Rookie Brandon Jacobs in New York.
The high score of the week goes to Calley's Allstars (John Priddy) as they
benefited from Daunte Culpepper's less than stellar performance in a big win
over TDsnDC (Carl Murphy) .
