What
. . . . . Me Worry?
The
cover that has been draped over the new Redskins Offense all off-season
was finally lifted Monday Night in front of a national TV audience,
and while it had some shiny parts to it, the machine under the shine needs
a little tune up. The motion and quick passes to the sides were interesting
and DID get us into the Red Zone a number of times, which was a marked
improvement over the 4 week debacle that was the Preseason. I would
have liked to have seen more slants and quick outs that moved in a more
vertical direction, but I WAS encouraged by the play of Antwaan Randle-El
and the return of Clinton Portis. However, the end result of Field
Goals instead of TDs and a missed field goal at the end of the game has
put the Redskins in an early season quandry of NEEDING to win the Sunday
Night match-up with the equally desperate Cowboys.
The
Offense was not the thing that kept me up into the wee hours of Tuesday
morning . . . it was the porous nature of the Defense.
Shawn
Springs gets my vote right now as the Team’s Most Valuable Player if the pass
defense at Fed Ex Field was what we have to look forward to until Shawn’s return. Third
down stops were virtually non-existent, and Carlos Rogers looked like he worked
on his Victory Dances in the off-season more than his coverage techniques. Losing
Pierson Prieoleau on the first play of the game didn’t help, but even without
those guys, we should have been able to do more against the Vikings offense
that is essentially made up of B-List players.
It
won’t be B-List guys we are going into battle against at Texas Stadium
Sunday night with T.O., Jason Witten and Terry Glenn. With Owens
wanting to endear himself to the Cowboy fans on Sunday Night, look for
a celebration on the Star if he does score. Hopefully, Gregg Williams
can use the film from Monday Night's disappointing performance as a building
block to fix what was wrong, and we can deposit the Cowboys in our rear
view mirror with a key divisional win and redeem ourselves in the eyes
of the Nation.

you have a Blue Parking Pass and extra room in your car, or if you
need a ride, join us at Austin Avenue and we can put together
carpools. We will be leaving Austin Avenue at approximately 1:30
p.m. to get on line at the Gate as early as possible!
