A Healthy Dose of
Realism
Jason
Campbell faced an aggressive defense with a lot of blitzes in
his third NFL start this past Sunday against the Falcons . . . and it
showed. When
Atlanta brought the house, Jason showed that he
is still basically a rookie . . . panicking at times and rushing some throws. His long throwing motion enabled a number of his
passes to be knocked down at the line of scrimmage, and his "Garo
Yepremian-like" interception in the 3rd quarter sealed the Redskins'
fate on a day when the running game was very productive (in the first half that
is). That is the bad news ~~ but the GOOD NEWS is that he is saying
the right things and seems to be learning from his mistakes. That is why I
am so glad he is playing now . . . getting INVALUABLE game experience and making
these mistakes now . . . because from what I have read about this kid and heard
from Auburn Alums, he doesn’t make a habit of making bad decisions over and over
again. Some people have tried to compare Jason to Romo here in Dallas ~~
not a good comparison. Romo has been learning the game for 4 full years
now in the same system. He has been taking second string reps for 4 full
years now. If there was ever a QB that should have been ready, he was
it.
Campbell will get there, and he and the fans
will be much better for this time we are investing in him
now.
This week we
get to face a desperate and hated foe in the Philadelphia Eagles at FedEx
Field. The Birds are coming off a big win on Monday night that has given
them some hope that they can ride the arm of (cough cough) Jeff Garcia to a wild
card spot. It’s time to pop that bubble with some Sean Taylor pain, and a
good, old fashioned, smash mouth, RUN-the-FOOTBALL kind of Sunday
afternoon!
On the Medical
Front . . . Clinton Portis underwent successful shoulder surgery Monday, and
from all reports is doing well, so he will be ready for all offseason workouts
as we retool with our young stud
QB. .............................................................John

PLAYOFF PICTURE presented by JERRY
MIRON:
What a shame. Every team in the NFC that we needed to lose,
did indeed lose. Plus this unforeseen bonus: the Giants, Rams and
Packers also lost. Guess I was too much of a homer to think that we could
win at home against a team that was equally on the ropes, in front of a huge
sell-out crowd.
Guess the Tuna was right: you are what your record
says you are which, in this case, means that we are just as good as these
powerhouses: The Browns, the Texans and the Packers.
Sobering......
