our HEROES! Two of our beloved Fans -- Josh Hamilton and Tony
Rives -- are currently serving in the armed forces and are stationed in Iraq.
Following is some recent correspondence received from them:
08/28/30:
Dear Burgundy & Gold
Fan Club members;
First of all I would like to say "Hi" from Iraq. I am Tony and when I
am home and do get to Austin Avenue for a game, I wear Dave Butts
old No. 65.
Now I am sitting over here reading the "Stars and Strips" newspaper, and all I
see is the Skins loosing one after another and running back problems....
I was hoping, as I am sure every fan is, that the team would be improving over
last year's preformance. Do you think last year was a fluke?
Or is
Coach Gibbs "keeping his card close to his chest" as they used to say?
There are a lot of Dallas fans over here, and they are really starting to whoop
it up! I really want to beat them twice again this year!
You all take care and yell loud enough to be head in D.C.!!!

Thank you so much for the honor of being
in the "Hero's Corner", but the truth is I am not a hero; it is the young women
and men in our armed forces who are the "Hero's"!!! They go out on patrols
day after day trying to keep the peace and not knowing when or where these terrorist
bastards have planted a bomb or some other maiming or killing device.
I stay in a very secure area, never in touch with the locals or in any harm,
protected by these brave young people every second of the day!
They may complain about the conditions, and believe me living over here is not
too pleasant, but I have never heard one of them complain when they have to
do their job. Truly these young women and men are a noble and fine representative
of their generation.
Now I know Plano has had a hot and very dry summer as I was home on leave a
couple of weeks ago, but it doesn't compare with this place. I am in the
Southern part of Iraq, very close to the Kuwaiti border in the desert.
We are less then two miles from the Persian Gulf, but it is nothing but heat,
sand and dust here. Now one evening last week the wind shifted and the
humidity came in from the Gulf and that combining with the 120 degree heat really
made it feel like you were in a sauna.

Hi Everyone,
how is everything going? I am doing well thus far. It is a bit hot
over here though (130 - 140), but I am getting used to it though. I hope the
preseason crowd has been a good one. Please let everyone know that I am
there with them in spirit. I appreciate what you have done for me
and I can't wait to get to see the gang again.
