Set 'Em Up and Knock 'Em Down!
Two weeks in, and we have two solid performances AND two wins! I don’t know about you guys, but I will take those numbers any day!
The Defense gave me a scare in the third quarter against the Iggles when they started reverting back to the “Big Hit” mentality of years past . . . but they settled down when it counted, and stopped a Donovan-led charge that in years past would have meant a disappointing loss. LaRon Landry’s hit at the end to seal the deal had fans of the Burgundy & Gold across the world jumping out of their seats in celebration . . . because, DAMN IT, we love to beat the Eagles!
The Offense was good again, with Jason Campbell continuing to mature before our very eyes. He spread the ball around more than in Miami, which was nice, but missed that TD pass at the end to a WIDE OPEN Santana Moss (that would have given me a Fantasy Win if I do say so myself), so there is still room for improvement. But like I said last week, this is a "Work in Progress," and so far I like what I am seeing! I would, however, like to see more Ladell Betts running straight ahead, and less outside sideline-to-sideline stuff from Clinton. And while we are talking about wanting "less" of something . . . if I NEVER hear Charles Barkley again . . . it will be just fine with me!
This Sunday brings another NFC East tilt with the desperate and winless Giants coming to our house. They HAVE to win, so they will be going for broke on every play, and they have already proven they can score points in their loss to the Cowboys. I happen to think our Defense, especially the secondary, is better than the Cowboys, so if we can get physical with Plastico and frustrate Shockey early, we stand a good chance of being successful against them. The Giants' defense is virtually non-existent, so I look for us to be successful both on the ground and through the air. This is a game we need to win to go into the early bye week on a confident note, so hopefully the fact that there IS a bye after this will keep us focused and away from the “Trap Game” mentality. Good Teams win the games they should win . . . it’s time to start having some of those games!

I know I speak for all of us when I say that the atmosphere at Austin Avenue was awesome! But the highlight of my evening came at game's end. As you all may know (or not), we have a standing bet with the Eagles fan club. After each Redskins~Eagles game -- if they win, a few of us (and me with the Eagle head on) will stand in front of their group and spell E-A-G-L-E-S . . . . . EAGLES! Over the past few years, I have had to do that too many times, so much that I have an "emotional skid mark" from the experience. In turn, if we win (and we did), they have to stand in front of our group and sing "Hail to the Redskins" with us. Monday night, about 6 Eagles fans came in and sang the glorious tune with a packed house at Austin Avenue!!!! Ah, it did my heart good to see that!!!!!!!! I will give them credit as I cannot imagine any Cowboys fan having the decency to do that! Hail Redskins - Bring on the G-Men!!!!
