HOME COOKIN' DOES THE BODY GOOD!
A return to the friendly confines of FedEx Field and 10 days of rest after the Thursday night season opener were apparently just what the doctor ordered for our Redskins as they looked markedly sharper on both sides of the ball against the New Orleans Saints last Sunday. The stirring victory brought a number of key players back into the limelight, with Santana Moss, Clinton Portis, and Jason Taylor excelling, while last-minute starter Chris Horton was making himself known in a BIG way to the Burgundy and Gold Faithful with 3 takeaways! The high-powered offense of the Saints was held in check for the most part by the continued progression of LaRon Landry and the return of Shawn Springs, while Jason Campbell discovered that good things can happen when you go DOWN THE FIELD with the passing game! Overall, it was a very enjoyable start to the “Home Campaign” for 2008.
That campaign continues this Sunday as a familiar foe comes calling in the form of the Arizona Cardinals. Kurt Warner is back at the helm of the Redbirds and has been surprisingly productive so far in rolling up a 2-0 record and the early lead in the NFC West. The dual Attack of Larry Fitzgerald and Anquon Boldin will test the secondary in a major way, while the rushing tandem of Edgerrin James and youngster Tim Hightower is certainly worth watching as well. Some early pressure on Old Man Warner would go a long way towards disrupting their flow, and newcomer Jason Taylor gave us a taste of that last week. The competition the Cardinals have faced in their two victories (Miami and San Francisco) hasn’t been stellar, but they certainly have some weapons we will need to account for.
Overall, though, this looks like a VERY winnable contest . . . and with Philly and the Cowgirls on the horizon, its important to not let this one slip away!
HAIL! ......................................................John Priddy

Jamie Gatski, one of the wonderful waitresses at Austin Avenue, will be participating in the well-known Breast Cancer 3-Day, a 60-mile walk over three days to benefit breast cancer research, treatment, education and prevention. She will be visiting us prior to and throughout game day to seek support for this wonderful cause -- and she will also be raffling off a CHI Pink Limited Edition Breast Cancer Awareness Flat Iron (2008 Model, valued at $129.95 - see picture below). Here is her story . . .
I have taken on an incredible challenge. On November 7, I'll be walking 60 miles over the course of three days, camping out at night with thousands of other women and men taking this journey with me.
It's for an event called the Breast Cancer 3-Day, which benefits Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the National Philanthropic Trust Breast Cancer Fund. Every advancement in breast cancer research, treatment, education and prevention in the last 25 years has been touched by a Komen for the Cure grant. They are working hard to build a future without breast cancer, and I plan on raising $2,220.00 to help bring us closer to that goal.
Many of you know our friend Shelly, and for those of you who don't, she is the strongest person that I know. She has battled and won the fight against breast cancer, and now is battling with bone cancer. Her strength and determination have inspired me to take on this challenge. Please consider sponsoring me so that we can all help with the fight.
Without a cure, one in eight women in the U.S. will continue to be diagnosed with breast cancer. That's why I'm walking in the 3-Day. Because everyone deserves a lifetime.
