IT SHOULDN'T BE THIS HARD . . . BUT WE'LL TAKE IT!
Much to the chagrin of my spouse, pets and neighbors, I typically do a “happy dance” after a Skins’ victory. I couldn’t muster the energy yesterday because I was physically and emotionally drained after Springs sealed the win with his INT. I told my brother, John, “It shouldn’t be this hard”! Just once this season I’d like a "laugher" (that goes our way, obviously) that doesn’t hinge on a fourth-down conversion or a defensive stop late in the fourth quarter!
But . . . had you told me before the season started that we’d be 7- 4 at this point, I would have done my “happy dance,” so let’s take it. The Offense was solid with Clinton rushing for 143 yards, and Jason was efficient passing for 206 yards and no interceptions. The Offensive Line was better, but still allowed two early sacks before settling down. Still, I was encouraged by what we were able to accomplish in such a hostile environment for visiting teams. Our secondary was able to hang onto not one, but two, interceptions yesterday. However, I am growing increasingly concerned by our lack of a serious pass rush and our Defense’s knack for allowing the opposition to march down the field immediately after our Offense scores! Greg needs to dial up some blitzes so we can get pressure on the QB. We have the best corners in the NFC . . . let ‘em prove it!
I say this because we’ll need to put some serious pressure on the Giants this weekend to beat them and avenge our Week 1 loss. Plastico Burress may not play due to a hamstring injury, and Brandon Jacobs may be out with a knee injury, but regardless, we need to get in Eli’s face so he’ll hopefully revert back to his early days of indecisiveness and poor judgment. The Cardinals kept it close yesterday by stopping the run, but Eli had all day to throw and picked apart the Cardinal secondary. Our secondary is far superior to Arizona’s, so if we can get some pressure on Eli and contain their running game, we can keep the score down. If Jason plays mistake-free and we hop aboard the Portis Express, we can come out with a victory. But we MUST play good old fashioned NFC East Smash-Mouth Football to do so. A victory over the G-Men will go a long way to silencing those who feel we are "pretenders" and not "contenders."
This weekend also marks the late, great, Sean Taylor’s induction into the Ring of Honor. I can think of no better way to honor his memory than beating a hated division rival.
HAIL! ..........................Mary Priddy
