HAIL REDSKINS FANS!
YOU WANT THE GOOD NEWS OR THE BAD NEWS?
Let’s start with the good news. First and foremost, we won! After the most horrendous start to a game I can remember, Jason righted the ship in the third quarter and led the offense on two TD scoring drives. The first time all season our offense has scored two TDs without the benefit of our opponent’s so called “prevent” defense. Clinton had a respectable day with 98 yards rushing, and FINALLY Santana caught not only a TD pass but one that was longer than 8 yards! Our Defense, which was torched against Detroit, held Tampa to 3 points in the second half, and the lone TD they gave up was on a drive that started at the Redskins’ 10 yard line. DeAngelo Hall had a pick that seemed to spark our first TD drive, and Brian Orakpo had a sack for the second week in a row.
And now for the bad news . . . we can’t wait until the second half for our Offense to show up! I am hopeful the signing of Sherman Lewis as an Offensive Consultant will help for the remainder of the season, but we need a QB. Believe me, I drank the Campbell Kool-Aid before the season began, but he needs to go. Even Sonny was calling for his head right before halftime. Jason is a true professional off the field – not so much on the field. A change of scenery will do him a world of good after the season ends. Hopefully Lewis will help Zorn open up the play-calling. What I don’t understand is Zorn was such a wide open, fly-by-the-seat-of-his-pants QB when he played ~ ~ why he is so conservative when calling plays as a coach?
Our Defense isn’t giving up a lot of points, but we’re giving up a lot of yards. We’ve got to put more pressure on the QB, so even if we don’t create turnovers we get off the field quicker and create a shorter field for our struggling Offense. I was disappointed in Blanche’s “more maverick” quote before the game, only to say afterwards he was only bluffing so Tampa would “think” we were going to blitz more. Stop the mind games and unleash the hounds! We have got to be more aggressive on Defense.
And the worst news of all - - we lost our best offensive player, Hunter Smith, to an injury. It doesn’t seem too serious and he will be active this week, if only to hold on PATs. We signed a punter to the practice squad in case Hunter can’t go because we all agree “Operation Suisham” was a bust!
We travel to Carolina to play an 0-3 Panther team, but Carolina has too many offensive weapons to take this game lightly. DeAngelo Williams and Steve Smith have the potential to take any ball they touch to the house from anywhere on the filed. Jake Delhomme has had trouble lately with INTs, so hopefully we can put enough pressure on him to throw of few picks our way. If so, we should win this game.
