OK . . . Now that I have Calmed Down . . .
Just like you I came into this season with a healthy dose of optimism about our Redskins. Our Defense would be able to get some steady pressure on the opposing Quarterbacks, our Secondary was strong enough in man-to-man coverage that we could afford to “Bring the House” and blitz more, and our Offense would certainly be better with a second year in the same system, and all the improvements that familiarity brings.
However, at the end of our mercifully last trip to the Meadowlands, my optimism was gone. I was ready to see Todd Collins . . . I wanted the coaches heads on platters . . . and I was ready to open my wallet for some Anger Management courses for some of these guys and their stupid penalties! After all, we lost to the Giants in the Meadowlands by 6 points!
Hmmmm . . . Hold on a second. We lost to the Giants in the Meadowlands by 6 points. In an opening weekend that saw the Patriots AND Chargers needing last minute comebacks to beat inferior opponents, we had a comeback that fell short AT the Giants against a team that many people are picking to win the division. Ok . . . take a deep breath, John.
Things I did NOT like ---
1. Jason . . . if there is nothing available, and you have empty space in front of you because the line has pushed all of the rushers behind you . . . RUN…RUN…RUN!
2. Santana Moss is not supposed to be your possession receiver who catches the ball across the middle in traffic . . . that just ain’t his thing.
3. If your secondary plays off all of the receivers by at least 5 yards . . . the chances are pretty damned good the ball will be caught.
4. Nice tackle on Manningham, Deangelo . . . real nice!
5. Why wasn’t Orakpo rushing the passer?
OK, so now we get the Rams, WHO BEAT US LAST YEAR, at FedEx Field. They have a suspect offensive line, a fragile quarterback, and untested receivers. They also happen to have a great running back in Steven Jackson, but this is a team we should beat, and beat BADLY! I will give “One More Mulligan.” (See, my blood pressure is rising once again.) Coach Zorn, use the pieces you have . . . and use them well . . . and you should win this game handily!
